WITHIN* THE EMPIRE. ,; Received 14, 11.43 p.m. Ottawa, May 14. The Montreal Board >of Trade, on the seventh of May, unanimously agreed to submit a resolution to the Sydney (Canada) conference in favor of the Empire protecting itself against foreign producers. Hence Britain and the colonies should grant each other substantial prefenmte. and for the respective revenucs permit principles of free trade in the Empire to remain. Mr. George, ex-president, was chosen as delegate to the Sydney Conference. He has since resigned, on the ground that the resolution was ill-considered and at yarianV with the national trade policy of Canada. A special meeting of the Board will he held next week to re-consider the resolution.
