The meeting of this branch will be held monthly on .Mondays. 'Some discussion took place hi regard to constructing a railway line along the coast. Now that the harbor is going ahead, large boats will lie coming to tile.port, and a railway lino ought to pay. Anyhow, it would pay the settlers, as 'it now eo»ts 20s per ton to have our goods delivered here. It was thought that if tile settlers along the coast asked the Government to put a railway from the coast, anil guaranteed to pay any losses through the working >.i it (iiy means of a special rate) the Government would \erv likelv consider the matter.
The milk supply at the local factory is decreasing, ami I think that at the end of this week th- factory will start running every other day for the winter months.
Mr. W. McLachlan, win' was one ut the gentlemen in Mr. Alexander's motorear that was injured ia New Plymouth last week by running into a cart, received a nasty cut on the side of the face, which he did not think was worth seeing to at the time, but on the Saturday morning after the aecideiilt Mr. Mcl.achlan had to go into town foi medical treatment, the wound turning out worse than he thought if was going to. It will lie several days before e is able to return home. Hares are fairly plemiful hi some parts of the district, out other game is almost a thing of the past. It would he well if the Acclimatisation Society had a few closed seasons, so as to give the •Mine a chance to increase. The wet weather has put a stop to all the road contracts in the district this week. Messrs. Rothery and Clarke, who should have iiuished their metal contract on the Newell road this week, will be delaved a little longer, and so will Torteous and Fisher with the Ruukere road formation. , The turnip blight has made its appearance in a crop o r two of turnips in this district.
