Several proprietors' of restaurants aud tea rooms to-day expressed to a reporter their great dissatisfaction with the Arbitration Court award allectiiig the wages of their employee,;. Mi\ Scott (secretary of the Employers' Association) alleges that the award of the Court in Wellington was on a high scale because of the snpineness of the employers there, who allowed the case to go by default and that the awa"d became a precedent. One of the large employers' averred that the award involved 'him in"au additional expenditure of ISoO a year and that it was imposidblv to recoup himself as a manufacturer could by increasing the price of hii< goods. Other employer* expressed similar views, but recognised that nothing could b e done for U months, when the award .expired. TYiPOORAPIHCA L DISPUTE. _ Invereargill, Last Night. Mr. J. R. Triggs, Conciliation Commissioner for the South Island, presided today over a conference of delegates' representing employers and employees in thi! typographical dispute. The' deliberations resulted in an amicable agreement without recourse to the Arbitration Court. The agreement is based en the Ohigo award. The chief alterations are that wag<|i of compositors shall oe three pounds |day work), three pounds five shillings (night work): linotype operators, three pounds six s'hillin"? (day work), three pounds twelve shilling's (night work); monoliiie operators three pounds (day work), three I'ounds six shillings (night , V ork) U'sser rates were lixed for country office*. The agreement remains in force till :ilsl December, lflll.
