THE ASIA MINOR MASSACRE.
London, April 30. Advices from Smyrna state that tne recent massacres in Asia Minor were planned in Constantinople with a view to provoking the intervention of the Power# and ending the Constitutional
regime. . The town of Adana is burnt and th 4 survivors are dying of famine. The Government is despatching a court-martial to Adana to try the instigators of the massacres. It is resolved to use the utmost severity. 'HIE NEW CABINET. 'YOUNG TURKS DECLINE PORTFOLIOS. EXECUTION OK PLOTTERS.
Constantinople, April 30. Several prominent Young Turks have declined portfolios at Constantinople in Tewllk's Cabinet.
The court-martial has resulted in several executions.
THE LATE SULTAN'S TRIAL.
London, April 30. It is understood that Alid-ul Hamid is not to be tried by Moslems. India congratulated the new Sultan and expressed the hope that Abd-ul-Hamid was personally unharmed. _ Sir Edward Grey, Secretary of State, for Foreign Affairs,congratulated Turkey on the effective way order lad been., established. Received May 2, 4.30 p.m. Constantinople, May 2. Tewfik Pasha has been- appointed Grand Vizier; Ferid Pasha, Minister ot the Interior; Rifaat Bev, Minister of Finance, and Riza Pasha, Minister of Milling Salibi Pasha, commander of the Second Armv Corps, was appointed tb the War Office. The other portfolios remain unchanged. The Sultan, Molianied V, attended the Selamlik at Santa. Sophia. Six sheep were sacrificed before the mosque in celebration of the event. Mohammed wore | khaki as a compliment to the Salonikan troops. Several of the arrested member* of the Liberal Union were released on making apologies. FATE OK PRE VIOL'S SULTAN'S. Few of the Sultans, or even of their relatives, have died peacefully in their tycds. Aniurath (or Murad 1) V'as stabbed by a soldier and died in 1383. Bejanet 1 ("The Thunderbolt") was defeated by Tamerlane, and died in prison. Solymnu was dethroned (1403) by lii* brother, Musn Chelebi, who was strangled (1410). Amurath 111 killed his five brothers; their mother, in grief, stabbed herself. Mahomet 111 strangled all his brothers, and drowned his father's wives. Mustapha I was defeated by the Janissaries, and imprisoned. Osman 11 «M strangled (1(118) by the Janissaries. Then, restored to the throne, Mustapha 1 was again deposed, sent to the Seven Towers, and strangled (1022). Ibraham wa.s strangled by Janissaries (1H40) *, Mustapha 11 was deposed. Alimed 111 ■was deposed, and died in prison. Sellm 111 was deposed (1'780) by the Janissaries. Mustapha IV was deposed, and, with Ids predecessor, Selim, murdered, 1807. Abdul Aziz was deposed in May, 187<>, and died shortly after. It was officially stated at the time that Abdul Aziz was insane, and that he committed suicide by cutting arteries in his arm. Five years afterwards, when MiuQat Pasha * was in disfavor, he and others wore placed on trial for murdering the deposed monarch. It was then proved (bat Mustapha Faiiri Bey and Hadj Mehmed were the actual assassins, anil Mahmoud and Nouri Pashas, the Sultan'a brothers-in-law, Midlmt Pasha, and others accomplices. Mnrad V, who succeeded Abdul Aziz, was deposed, on the ground of bad health, after reigning only three months. He died in August, 1004, from, some asserted, poison. The late Sultan succeeded Murat V. He is now a prisoneV, and what his fate will lxl, is at present doubtful.
