SEVERE EARTHQUAKES.

•Fremantlc, April 20. Slight earth tremors were felt in th« Northampton district at midnight OB the li>th inst. No damage was done. Received 29, 12.30 a.m. Sydney, April 89.,1 . A very non-re earth tremor was registered at the Observatory shortly before midnight on the 27th, preceded by two smaller tremors. The maximum amplitude was 15.8 milimetres, and the largo waves continued for nearly fIV» minutes. Some of the series of succeeding .waves reached six milimetres. The epiccntrum of the earthquake was 2000 or 3000 miles north from Sydney, probably in the seismic zone embracing the Philippines and surrounding islands.
