Harrington, officer in charge of the local telegraph office, is promoted to the position of telegraph engineer, Nelson; C. B. Jlann, assistant controller of stores, is promoted to the position of controller of stores at Wellington, in place of J. Black, who has retired, having reached the age limit.

Pollard was also raised 10s per ton. bringing the price to £5 10s. Flour now stands at Ell lus per ton. OUTBREAK (IF MI'IITHEP.IA. , Dundein, Last Night. Another outbreak of diphtheria has occurred, this time at Green Island. Two families are affected, a child ia one case and two children in the other. In the latter case one of the children is dead. The patients are isolated iu their own homes, and the school has been temporarily closed. '« one case the outbreak seems to be due to defective drainage. A LUNATIC INCENDIARY. Dtindin, Last Night. All escaped patient from Seaclill' mental hospital, who is believed to have been responsible for fires at \\ arrington Evnnsdab and Waitati early this morning, was arrested at Wnikari this afternoon.
