LONDON BANK ROBBERY
AN ARREST MADE. Madrid, April 20. A man believed to be "WiudeH" was arrested at Madrid iu connection with the London South-Western Bank robbery in 'September. _ [This robbery was the most sensational effected in London for years, and was very daring, (inining ]Kissession oi the Rank's secret code-word for the day, the thief or thieves sent round notices to several brunches in London that a certain sum of money had been lodged to the credit of D. S. Windell, and was transferred in his name to the branches. Later in the day a well-dressed man drove up in a cab, went into seven of the Banks, interviewed the managers, gave his signature, and got delivery of over a thousand pounds all told. He escaped detection each time by his cool audacity. One of the managers happened to inquire of headquarters after the man had gone, and the fraud was discovered. The thief, however, was either warned before be reached the next branch or took fright, for he escaped. Complicity of a bank official was suspected, as without uii internal knowledge of the bank's methods and also possessing the code word, the fraud was impossible.
