Yesterday, i;i aililition to the eruptions of Xgauruhoe. the whole of the Tongariro Plains were alive with thermal excitement, dense clouds of steam rdttg from Te Mure and the Red Crater, anil also from Kitetahi Springs. Th;n about 11 o'clock the whole volcano poured a mighty volume of hcav.smoke several thousand feet high, white dust was discharged in dense shower after shower over Tongariro. and on the Wuiniarinii side for nearly half an hour the mountain thus labored and convulsed, roaring I rumbling the while within ii,< depths, so that the noise ami tremor of it was appreciable ten miles away.
The previous night, it was stated by the groom at Mananiii changing staiioii, was marked by move disturbance ir.nl explosive noises from the mountain than at any time since the outbreak.
