At a meeting on Saturday night the Southland Trades and Labor {.'(uracil unanimously carried the following resolution:—That this Council strongly protests against the unwarrantable and undemocratic action of the Premier in removing from the House of Representatives and giving to a member of the Upper House the important portfolio of Minister of Justice, living decidedly of opinion that in an enlightened and undemocratic community the control and administration of the Justice and Police Departments should he held by a man who has been elected by and iresponsible to the electors of the Dominion, and that copies of this resolution be forwarded to other Trades ami Labor Councils and organisations, win' ! be asked to make similar protect*.
