MARSLAND HILL MEMORIAL.

To the Editor. Sir,—With reference to'the correspondence about the inscription upoi the Marsland Hill Memorial, 1 am sure that the subscribers would be unanimous in wishing that the names of those gentlemen who have taken so much trouble in connection with the movement should be inscribed upon it. It is quite usual to do this, and perfectly right and proper, because those who live in years to come ought to know that without the lalior of these gentlemen no monument would have been erected at all. Fifty years have passed away and nothing has been done, until the committee, represented mainly by Messrs. Gordon, Percy Smith, Dockrill, and Captain Mace, look the matter in hand and carried it out so successfully. I would suggest, however, that the end of the inscription should be more explicit, such as this: "On behalf of the committee appointed to collect subscriptions and to supervise the erection of this monument—S. Percy Smith (chairman)", \V. I''. Gordon (secretary), E. Dockrill (treasurer), Captain Mace (prime mover)." It appears to me that this would explain the matter to future generations, nnd also remove all objections raised by people at tho present moment.—l am, etc., K.
