| On Tuesday hist the annual school picnic in connection with the Kahili road school was held and the committee and settlers certainly excelled themselves in the treat given to the children. The day was given up to games of various kinds, including races, chopping events, etc., and the committee, Messrs Candish (chairman), W. Fleming, E. Duggan, and S. Willoughliy (secretary), ably assisted by the schoolmistress, Mrs Pcuwarden, and the settlers, were indefatigable in their efforts to amuse the little ones, whose wants in the catering line were -well supplied by tho ladies of the road. As a result ol the commit- | tee's efforts the school ground has ibeon well cleared and the children presented I with a cricket set, rounder set, and swings, hitherto unknown luxuries. In the evening a successful concert was held in the schoolroom to a crowded house. Mr. S. J. Candirrti presided. Several items were rendered by the children in a very "plasing manner, reflecting great credit on the teacher's (Mrs. IVnwardon's) .training. Songs were also rendered by Mrs. Lord (oncored), Messrs. A meeting of the Bazaar Committee j was held on Tuesday. 13th hist., when ; the balance-sheet of the late bazaar was brought down. It was shown thai £302 was cleared, a very .satisfactory result. The committee are sparing no pains to make the opening ball on the 23rd inst. a success, and it is hoped to clear a few more pounds. The committee have still to arrange for lights and seats for Hie new hall. Constable Kelly, of Rahotu, has been appointed Clerk of the Court at Opunake during the absence on sick leave of Coifstabic Hickman, who, we are pleased to say, is now progressing on the high road to recoverv. „ The Parihu-ka Road Board now* has a credit'balance of £45. For a board that has about 100 miles of bye-road to keep up on a %d rate, this shows carcfu 1 management.
