THE HEMP INDUSTRY.
By Telegraph.—Preas Association. Wellington, Tuesday. The total quantity of hemp exported from New Zealand "for the year ended March 31 shows a decrease of 511,508 bales, or roughly 11,3011 tons, which, at £2O a ton, figure* out at a loss to the country of £220,000. The quantity graded' for export for HIOS was 1:12,535 bales, and for 1009 only 70,027.
There was graded for the month of March D2U!> bales, and for the corn'sponding month of 1008 211,7111 'ml o *- Vine and pood fair hemp i4iw an increase for tin- month, and thai the Chief Fibre Expert reports that the quality was excellent, not one hale of liue or superior being rejected or coin!.' ; : .1
