THE NIMROD EXPEDITION.
THE MEMBERS ENTERTAINED. By Telegraph.—Press Association. Christchurch, Last Night. Lieut. Shackleton and the members of the Antarctic expedition and the officers of the Niinrod were entertained by the Canterbury Philosophical Institute at a banquet on Saturday. The proceedings were most enthusiastic, and there was a large and representative attendance, Including the Hon. D. Buddo. Replying to the toast of the expedition, Lieut. Shackleton acknowledged the help it had received from Captain Scott's Discovery expedition. He expressed the hope that a Britisher would locate the South Pole, and that the work of the Nimrod expedition would be useful in attaining that objective. .Lieut. Shackleton received a most enthusiastic ovation, the guests rising and cheering him to the echo. Bishop Grimes, proposing the toast of the Army and Navy, warmly eulogised New Zealand's offer of a Dreadnought.
