PETROLEUM NEWS.
We have received the following re port from the Taranaki Petroleum Co. ■Ltd.:—
Xo. 3 bore has now been temporarily closed down and work at Xo. 1 has been resumed. Sixty-two feet of mud have been pumped out of this bore and 1888 ft. of cavings have been drilled. Since reopening, gas and some oil have been coming, the gas at times being very strong.
At Xo. 2 bore the work has been, going on steadily, the pump working- | fairly well, and a considerable, quantity of gas and oil has been coming up, the latter, however, being mixed with a fair proportion of silt. With the arrival of tiie new pump, which is expected very shortly, it is hoped that better resultswill be obtained at this well, especially as the manager considers that he can now cope with the sand difficulty. Tlu-| gas from this bore is now being burnt.; in the furnace iu order to economise i the coal, and, if this should give out,] the manager proposes to use the refuse oil. There is now on hand 1,000 gallons | of oil in the underground tank and 1401 barrels above ground.
