Mr. J. H. Hempton supplies us wit.i Hie following customs returns, showing the amount of Customs duties (after deducting refunds) collected during the month of March, and also the totals for March, 1908:

The duties collected during tiie corresponding mouth of last year amounted to £3277 10s Sd, the excise duty for the same period being £B7 13s.' The customs duties collected (luring tile last quarter ended Wednesday amounted to £8975 13s lid, agahs'l .CBUU3 13s Gd last year. The return for the twelv* months elided March 31st were:—Customs duties .t38,927 14s od, other duties £-'OB4 lis 4d—total .£41,012 5s Ud. In the previous year the returns were:—Customs duties i»i8,794 4s Sd, other duties £2299 2s 2d—total £41,093 0s 10(1. The decrease is lnojre than accounted for by the fact that the Harbor Board now collect their own dues, this item for the past quarter representing about £l4O.
WELLINGTON FIGURES. Wellington, April 1. The returns of the Wellington Customs duties completed for the financial year show all-round decreases compared with the figures of last year. The total receipts, including' Customs duties, beer duty, light dues, pilotage, excise and port charges evidence a decrease of £03,520. The actual Customs receipts show a decrease of £73,745.
The total receipts for 1909 were £.820,071. AUCKLAND RETURNS. Auckland, April 1. The trade returns for the port of Auckland for March show a decrease of £10,248 in Customs duties on imports, but phenomenal increases on staple products, including:—Wool, an increase of £51,085; butter, an increase of £50,004; frozen meat, an increase of £21,831; kauri gum, au increase of £29,748.
