WHITELEY ORCHESTRAL SOCIETY.

The. second annual meeting of the YVliitchy Orchestral Society was held in the Whiteley Hall, New Plymouth, on Tuesday evening. The conductor. Mv. (.'. 1L Lawn, was in the chair. The balancesheet showed that the. finance* of the Society were in a healthy slate, there being a fair credit balance. The reports of the committee and conductor showed the Societv.to be in a healthy -state musically and, numerically. At the beginning of last season practices commenced with. !■"> Members, and during the season 10 more Members joined. Several of those have sifee left the district, and there are at pre-jhat 21) active members on the roll. The. meeting placed on record it\ appreciation of the splendid work donl; by the honorary conductor, .Mr. (J. 11. LnVn, during the year, and recogpised his iiin-dcuj knowledge and capability as a conductor, the opinion being uspressed that the Society was under.a deep obligation to him 'for the time lie had to willingly given. The meeting also recorded its appreciation of the work done by (lie hon. secretary, Mr. 11. -I. t'rewes, who was <i hard worker in the interests of the 'Society, and to whom it was said the gooil financial position was due.

At the election of officer* Kev. W. Caniiel w-M again elected president, Hie vice-president,-; being Mr. 11. Okey, M.t', Dr. Lcatliam, Messrs W. Ambury, A. 11. Arnold. W. 11. Skinner, and E. 11. Tribe. Mr. I'. 11. I.awu was re-elected conduotor, Mr. 11. ,1. Orc.wcs was re-appointed secretary and treasurer, and Messrs C. \V. lieiilmw, T. IS. lilanchett and F, S. Uutler were appointed a committee. The Society, it was said, hoped lo come before the public with one high. class concert soon and probably another one towards the end of the season. Several other innovations will he provided during the present season for thu entertainment of the patrons and supporters I of fte Society^
