THE CELEBRATIONS. I'o-day, after a lapse of years, the residents of Taranaki will hold liigli revel upon tin- anniversary of tli,' arrival of the first ships in tlie New Plymouth roadstead, The Oddfellows, with their Prcmier Picnic, have leil tile way, and their function is to Int held lit tli ■ breakwater. Large crowds are expecied from all parts of Taranaki. The Mayor of New Plymouth, with the citizen's committee, and the Seaside Improvement Commitcee have also made complete arrangements for t.lic entertainment of the public at the breakwater.

A special effort has b ■en made to secure tile attendance of-our carlv nettiers. It i» hoped that to-day's gathering of pioneers and veteran's will he large and representative of the whole province. They will be welcomed by the Mayor at 2.30 p.m. and entertained at afternoon tea by the committee at 3 p.m. The programme includes events for the pioneers and veterans. Capital catering arrangements iiave been made for the public. 'Buses and special trains will run from town at intervals. The first excursion train from the country will arrive at New Plymouth at 10.45 this morning, going through to the breakwater. Extra carriages will I" put on to accommodate town folk going to tile breakwater. The next train for the breakwater leaves town at 11.30, and others at 1.15 p.m. and 2.15 p.m. The fares are: Adults Bd, children 4(1. For the Oddfellows' Picnic several prizes have been purchased for children's races and competitions. Circumstances permitting, the Rarawa will probably run two trips. Tn that event, the first will be timed to leave the breakwater about noon. Tickets will be procurable from members of the committee on the wharf.
