. Auckland, Last Night. Interviewed to-,light as to the. intentions of the Union Stcaship Co. regarding the West Coast service, Sir James Mills, managing director of the coin- ' „? a "' lhat ' 116 Wils expected, the Mam Trunk had diverted a considerable portion of the passenger traffic which Jiad previously found its way via New llyniouth to Onohunga, the company had decided to withdraw one of its steamers hitherto employed, and to continue running the other one twice a week between Onelmnga and New Plymouth, and once a week between Onelmnga and Wellington. This arran»ement would be kept up through the winter, and it was hoped that the trade would permit of the daily service belli" resumed in the summer. The passenger rates had been reduced in deference°to a considerable amount of pressure from the travelling public, who had frquently pointed out that the Ojieliunga-New Plymouth fares were somewhat higher than I those between Wellington and Lyttel- j ton, a longer distance.
