THE WORKMEN'S CASE. By Telegraph.—Press Association. Chri'stehurch, Last Night, The Addington workshops enquiry was resumed. Air. JJeattie answered a number of questions put by the chairman. Mr. Hampton, the representative of the workmen, addressed the Board and summarirscd the evidence, lie hoped- the enquiry would result in the complete vindication of the character.or th:< men. and lead to improved facilities being provided, which would make the Addington workshops the leadiug one in the Dominion. Mr. Beattie also addres>cd the Board, lie stated that since HHtl) Addington had been supplied with plant and machinery valued at .ailJUl, and additions to buildings costing about £IO,OOO. Jt had been fully recognised that the plant and accommodation were insullicient for the rapidly growing work, and the matter had been discussed "with the General Manager. The funds available -had been expended to the best advantage at all the railway "workshops, for others besides Addington required additional plant. 1I« gave figures showing the cost of construction at Addington compared favorably with private firms. Mr. Ronayne's informants allegations were, he submitted, unwarranted and unsubstantiated. The chairman intimated that the public, proceedings of the enquiry had concluded.
