Reserved judgment in cases of interest to .small shipping companies was dccidi'd to-day, when judgment in the case of tin' Federated Seamen's L'nioa v. tin' Wanganui and Wellington Steam Packet Co., claim for .fill for bicachc of til.' Arbitration Court award, was given. It is alleged that the company employed two men as lamp trimmers on the Stormbird and llnia who were require.l til get lip otfillll on the donkey boilers before S a.m. for the purpose of working cargo, and refused lo pay overtime according to the award. His Worship said the' breaches were proved, but as they occurred in (sic) last, and action had not been taken within MX months of committal, judgment would go for defendant. .No costs were allowed.
The same I'nion claimed ,UlO penalty from Richardson and Co., Napier, for employing two liiemen on the Kalin on Sunday for the purpn-c of keeping steam in the'inain boiler for working cargo at bays and roadsteads on the Knsl Coast workings. It vvns a seiiouis breach in view of the action of the company and the correspondence between the parties, but tile action was barred by the time limit, ami judgment was given for defendant. >"u costs were allowed.
