| LIFTING THE VEIL. I THE LOCALITY OF THE SOUTH POLE. Christchurcli, Friday. As far as exploration is concerned, the expedition has been eminently successful, said Lieut. Shackleton. No one, of course, is satisfied with hits work, but certainly, as adding something to our knowledge of the far south, the expedition has been successful. It had drawn back the veil a little more from the four million square miles that have been hidden from mail. Up to the present time there is one thing we are certain of—that the geographical South Pole is nituated on a high plateau, which experiences the coldest and stormiest weather in the world; where in the height of summer it is possible to get 70 decrees of fro-t, and one can realise a little irom this what the weather must be like in the winter.
