CONCILIATION COUNCIL.

The adjourned meeting of the Conciliation Council was held to-day to deal with the dispute between the restaurant employees' union ami employ- : ers. s Mr. Lang, who represented the Union , previously anil stated that he would not submit th (l Union's ease, was pre- ' sent, hut when Mr, Giles asked if anyone appeared for the applicants, Mr. Lang made uo response. Mr. Giles announced that there being no appearance for the applicants the Court could, under section 37 of the Act of last session, proceed as if both parlies were present. 1 Mr. Knox, representing the respondents, saiil that the demands made by the applicants were impossible. The union was demanding the Christchurch award in its entirety with the compulsory clause of the Auckland award. Mr. Knox thea proceeded to call evidence. piles said as there could be nothing to put before the Council in the form of a recommendation, he would forward his report lo the- Arbitration ■Court, and that owing largely to the unreasonableness of the employees' union, voiced by Mr. Lang, in refusing to give evidence, no decision had been ainveil at. Replying to a question, Mr. Ling admitted that out of about -di) persons employed at hotels and restaurants only 25 were members of the Union.
