THE I'ATEA MEETING. At a meeting of the Patea Racing Club to consider the motiou,to rescind tne resolution by which it had been aecided to hold the annual races on the Egniont Racing Club's course, , The secretary (Mr. R, W. Hamerton), I read the following telegram from G. H. '■ XJibson, Uawera: "Several owners here, ' . hearing there is a meeting of your committee to-day to rescind the motion of your having the meeting at Hawera on the 12th April, have consequently neglected entering for Feilding. Should youn club decide to rescind the alteration of date of same, we have decided to approach the conference to prevent your club from getting any further permit, after our club receiving notice of Patea meeting to be held on Hawera racecourse and nominations to close on Monday." Mr. McKcnna retorted that it was apparent to him that the Hawera people were attempting to force the Patea people's hands in the matter. The Chairman then put Mr. Christiansen's resolution as follows:—"Thatthe r Tesolution passed at the meeting of the club oiT*2Sicd December, fixing Eastc." Monday as the"^y > shall be held, be rescinded." A vote was l taken, the resolution being defeated by a 32 votes to s.—Star. 1
TUEP TOPICS. (By "Moturoa.") ; Ben Deeley will ride Uhlando in the Taranaki Cup. l Aif -Shearsby arrived on Saturday with Vasa and Perolina, both horses landing in splendid buckle. A prad named Dick Arnst was an " also starter " in the St. Patrick's Handicap at Warrengate on Thursday.
Several Kawaroa Hurdles candidates sported silk in the mile and a-half hurdle lace at Warrengate. Speciosa (11.2) ran iFinnesseur to three-quarters of a length in 2min. 50sec. Whimper (11.3) was third, and Taupo (9.13) fell at the last fence when 'coming fast. Speciosa won the Kawuroa Hurdles last year under 8.11.
Retort, who figures in the Pukaka jHack Handicap with 7.4, carried 8.1 into second place behind Maori Rille in the Maiden on Thursday.
Fred Faber's Overtime won the For"dell Handicap, 5 furlongs, with 10.2 up, in Imin. 4sec. 'Overtime is not overburdened in Wednesday's events. Whetumarama is set to give Belario filb in the Taranaki Cup. In the Waipipi Cup, run over the same distance, Mr. J. H. Pollock places Belario a pound above the Maori-named horse. If wc could only believe one-half of the tales ■told alwut the latter prad wc would not •be tioublingover the all-absorbing question--" What's win the Cup?" The yarn that Whetumarama is "as good as his sire, Advance," is believed dow T n the line, but level-headed sports require more solid foundations than mere puff for such an astonishing assertion, and smile the smirk of the incredulous.
On Opunake form Golden Glow has a lot to learn before lib number will be hoisted in a hurdle event.
The Waiuku gelding, Hydraulic, had nothing to beat in the Flying at Opunake, and won from end to end. His Paul did the necessary in - the big handicap, but had not much to spare from Recreation. George Price jiode both winners. At the annual meeting of the Egmont(vVanganui Hunt Club the report showed that last season had been a most successful one. The election of officers resulted as follows:—President, Mr. W. Brewer (Waverley); vice-presidents. Messrs. G. F. Moore, .1. 11. Nixon (Wauganui), J. Kennedv, J. Coombes (Wav'•erley), G. W. White and R. If. Nolan ;(Hawera); hon. secretary, Mr. K. H. Nolan; treasurer, Mr. R. Morissey (Haiwera); auditor, Mr. G. A. Holder (llairera); master, Mr. 0. Syines (Waverley); deputy-masters, Messrs. E. K. Hastiv, (Hawcra), D. Noakc (Waverley), 0. A. Blair (Wanganui). The drawing »f the fixtures was left with the secretary and master. It is probable that (the opening day will be about the end of April. Mr. R. H. Nolan was appointed delegate to the New Zealand Hunts Association meeting in Christchurch in 'August next.
