PETROLEUM.
TARAXAKI COMPANY'S REPORT. . The directors of the Taranaki Petroleum Company furnish us with the following report: — Since the last report Hie work of pumping out No. 2 bore lias been pushed ou, although a considerable amount ot trouble has been met with owing to the sand in the well preventing the pump working as it should. Owing to this it was found necessary to again draw the pump, the barrel of which was round to be badly cut by the .sand, and a fresh ■barrel was put in. This, however, did not prove more successful owing to the large amount of saim m the lower part •f the hole, and the pump had to be again withdrawn, when the barrel was found to be choked with sand. A new barrel has been cabled for and should arrive during the week, and it is hoped that when this is working much better results will be met with. A fair amount of oil and silt has been pumped out since the last meeting, and to-day (Friday) the well has ilowed about six barrels of oil, and the oil is still at 1113 top of the casing.
The work of putting No. 3 bore in shape for temporarily closing down has been gone on with as" rapidly as possible, and by next week operations at No. 1 will probably be resumed.
