The scheme proposed 'by the Salvation Army to devote the Inebriates' .Home at Pakatoa Island to women only, and to establish a separate home lor .men on Ruthes Island, in the llauraki Guilt', is rapidly assuming practical shape. Some months ago the Army .otliciajs opened a subscription list aiming at £7OOO in order that they could erect the necessary buildings on ltuthes ■lsland, and at once met \vith a favorable response, several thousand pounds being .subscribed within a. iew weeks. On making enquiry yesterday, a Herald representative was informed that a total ,of £4500 lmd now been guaranteed. Though this leaves £2500 to be obtained, the Army ollfcials are sanguine that .they \vill have no ditiiculty in raising the money. In the plans, provision is •made for the accommodation of 100 persons at Ruthes Inland.
