BOROUGH COUNCIL.

The Borough Council's ordinary fortnightly meeting was held last night. Present: His Worship the Mayor t-Vlr. G. Tisch), and Councillors Boon, Coleman, West, Collis, Morey, Cattley, and Browne. Leave of absence was granted to Councillors Bellringcr and Mills. Forty-two "female swimmers'' petitioned to have the baths time-table altered, extending the time for the ladies early morning dip, and fifteen of the " male swimmers" forwarded a joint letter agreeing to the change. —Referred to the Baths Committee, upon tile suggestion of Councillor Collis. Mrs. L. Dockrill, secretary of the .Society for the Promotion of the Health of Women and Children, requested the free use of the old .oading-room as a consulting-room for the l'lunket nurseAgreed to. The borough engineer was authorised to attend to fencing the roadway to the abattoirs, and to extend the scrap in Lemon Street.

Councillor Cattley asked that repairs to the footpaths in Morlev Street should be effected at an early date.—Left with the engineer. Mr. T. M. Stephens, lessee of the cemetery paddock, asked to be relieved of the grassing conditions of his lease, owing to ill-luck and ill-health, lie offered to pay £7 10s as compensation. —Referred t" the Works Committee, with power to act.
