a block of land known as the MatemaUonga estate, evidently portion of a large area- originally belonging to the .Maoris, and which was apparently purchased from theni by ill 1 . Perry, lie acquired for closer .settlement. In reply, 1 have to inform you that I am referring the mat-
ter to the chairman of the band Purchase Board to obtain the necessary report as to its suitability for closer settlement, and if so to submit the same to •the Land Purchase. J>oard for consideration.—l am, etc., J. 0. Ward."
