At the inquest on James Morau, who died from injuries received by a fali from a roof of a railway carriage pa Saturday, the evidence showed that the carriage" out of which deceased was ejected was locked by a passenger with a pair of scissors. An elderly man stripped and entered the aea on the town beach at about T o'clock this evening, and is believed t° liave been drowned. His clothes are marked with the named "Spencc." It is thought that the man was a resident of Hastings, but the body has not yet been recovered. THROWN FROM A HORSE. Eltham, Monday.

John Jones, about 45 years of age, a laborer employed at Matapu, was returning home from Eltham on Saturday niaht, When he was thrown from, bis horse and killed. An inquest is to be held. another drowsing case. Auckland, Monday. Percy Bennet, 17 years of age, was drowned whilst swimming off Chelsea on Saturday. He was seen by his companions to throw up his arms and sink. His body was subsequently recovered. Bennet "was a strong swimmer. It « supposed that he was seized by cramp.
