The Rev. George Slaaifold, 8.A., who has been ministering at Asliburtou for the past two years, has accepted a call to the pastorate of the Church of Christ in Hobart, Tasmania, says a Press wire. Patrick Conway, who died at the Hawera Hospital on Saturday morning. He was reared on the estate of Lord Clive at Caatlebar (Ireland), and enlisted in the

65th Regiment in the year 1854. He was present at 32 engagements in New Zealand. He had in bis possession a flag which he requested should be placed on •lis coffin and afterwards presented in his name to the Hawera Volunteers.— Star.

He will be made the recipient of a presentation of a purse of sovereigns. Miss Warnock, the Plunkct nurse, arrived in New Plymouth on Saturday nignt. She was met by Sirs. Docknll, •president of the local branch of the Society for the Promotion of the Heaun of Women and Children, and Mrs. Slat:thews, the secretary. She is located for the present at the Criterion Hotel. At the last meeting of the executive, Mrs Dockrill was elected president in the absence of Mrs. Newton King from 'tire Dominion. Miss Warnock, who is a- fully certificated medical nurse, has for several months been studjTng for a still further examination, which she has just passed, in connection with the work that she is to undertake m the district -that of caring for sick babies. The nurse is prepared to show any mother the method of preparing bumanis«d milk, also to give any advice about the care of children.
