DISTRICT NEWS
AVAITARA ROAD. (From Our Own Correspondent.) On Friday last Mr. 11. Foxtou visited Huirangi and gave one of his lantern entertainments, putting about 100 slides .upon the screen. The attendance was small. The dry weather is beginning to showits effect on the milk supply at the factory, but many of the suppliers have grown maize this year, which has been the means of keeping the supply from going down too fast. What will happen, however, when the. maize is done, if the dry weather should continue, one can well imagine. The daily supply of milk is about 10,070 lbs., and of 23 suppliers there is one 4.9 test, one |4.8 two 4.7, four 4.0, one 4.5, four 4.4, two 4.3, one 4,2, two 4.1, and live 4.0. The daily output is about 14 boxes, which includes milk from the Kelly Road creamery. The grade is 93'/». Com stacks are dotted all around. The high prices ruling last year tempted people to sow more wheat and oats, but most stacks are thatched down, farmers hoping to obtain better prices later on than those now ruling. Turnip anil mangold crops are standing the dry weather well, but if rain does not come soon the drought must show its effects, not only o nroot crops but also on grass. The Huirangi school and settlers' picnic takes place next Tuesday, and given fine weather a large gathering is expected. Races Avill be held for old and* young.
