IMPERIAL DEFENCE.
A COMPREHENSIVE SCHEME. London, February 21. The Right Hon. Richard B. Haldane, Secretary of State for War, speaking at Newcastle, that Canada was easily able to add five or six territorial divisions for her own defence and for the assistance of the Empire. The Times says that in cases of cmerg 'ency Australia might produce five and New Zealand and South Africa four or five divisions, which, aided by Britain's fourteen second lino divisions and sixteen first line divisions, would give tho Empire an equivalent of twenty-three iiriiiy corps. It adds that Germany has also twenty-three army corps. Received 23, 1.25 a-ra. / Melbourne, February 22. The Minister for Defence has published the outline of Mr. R. B. Haldanc's scheme for the creation of an Imperial General 'Staff.
