A VESSEL'S MISHAP
A MYSTERY CLEARED UP. By Telegraph.—Press Wellington, February IS. 'The l'ukaki, which arrived from Lvttelton this morning, had a mishap to licr machinery at 2 a.m. yesterday, when iwo low pressure slide-valve spindles broke. By 2.30 p.m. temporary repairs enabled the voyage to be resumed.. The iMararou passed her in the morning, but did not see her distress signals. When the Mararoa returned in the afternoon repairs r nad been effected, and no assistance was required. '< THE JfARAROAiS MISSION. Christchureh. Last Night. Tt was the steamer Pukaki which, was yesterday reported to be in need of distance at tlio riiautlf of the Hurumii river. When the Mararoa reached the Hurumii the Pukaki was on her way to 'Wellington, repairs having been effected ito her slide valve gear.
