Justice Chapman congratulated the district on the absence o£ serious crime, the calendar, he said, only containing eases inevitable ia a district sucli us this, lie was particularly pleaded to note an entire absence, of sexual crime such as lias been giving trouble in our Courts in ioinu district* in times past. At one time it looked as if that class of offence had become most prevalent, and now not onlyi here but ia other place.s in the Dominion. Judges have been able to congratulate the districts on the absence of such crimes. Palmerston X., Last Sight. At the Supreme Court to-day, Andre-w Codbaz was charged with assaulting E. A. Coley. He was found guiltyi of common assault, and will be sentenced tomorrow. Herbert Bergstrom was found guiity of the theft 01 120 sheep from the lialt'our estate, I'ahiatua. A second charge against him of a similar nature will be heard to-morrow. AUCKLAND SESSIW-S. Auckland, February 15. In the Supreme Court George AlcGurk was sentenced to seven years lor attempting to murder his brother-in-law at Devonport. Judge Kdwards further remanded tho young man Barker, convicted of passing counterfeit AoinS, giving him another ' chance of disclosing his accomplices. Auckland, Last Night. J At the Supreme Court to-day a Alaori j named Tu Pomare was sentenced to a year's imprisonment on a charge of burglary Gisborne district. Lincoln . Tuner, a young man, was convicted of stealing a large quantity of bones on three occasions from the Queen Street , ■wharf, and obtaining money (by selling the bones) by means of false pretences. r He was sentenced to two years' impri- p soument. o
DUNEDIN SESSIONS. Dunedin, Last Night. At the Supreme Court to-day John Jlorra was charged l with having wounded one George Daniels, with intent to disfigure and do him grievous bodily harm. The case arose out of a dispute on December lDth, when accused was alleged to have stabbed Daniels. The jury returned a verdict of not guilty. Edward McKenzie and Louis McKenzie •were tharged «with committing iacest at Mosgiel. The case is unfinished.
