WONDERFUL RESCUE.
MOTHER ASB BABY SAVED FROM CAPSIZED SHU'! A marvellous rescue of a woman and a baby from the cabin of a capsized Vessel came to light on the arrival of the liner Oceanic at Plymouth recently. While twelve miles from Ruatan Island the British schooner Annie, commanded by Captain C. M. Decker, was capsized by a whirlwind accompanying a waterspout which formed immediately over the ship. When the vessel turned over, Captain Decker and the crew climbed aver'the side and clung to the keel. Mrs. Decker was in the cabin, and her baby was lying in its cradle at the moment of the accident. She was thrown down and pitched through the door of her en bin into the companion-way. Although severely cut and bruised, she nntunged to crawl back to the crib, and threw her husband's oilskins over it to 1 protect t lie child from being hurt by ili» debrisi. liv that time her husband and the crew had climbed around 4hc broadside of the sinking vessel. Disentangling the two boafs as quickly as possible, they went through a small 'iHirtbole to the rescue of .Mrs. Decker and the infant. Meanwhile Mrs. Decker, with .v.imirnble presence of mind, hurriedly knotted n rope out of an oil coat j mid other things, and for a few moj incuts there wa» a desperate battle for the lives of the two imprisoned ones. I The vessel was rapidly filling with water, and the cabin was half full, when the plucky mother managed to make a rope basket for the baby and saw that the infant was safely hoisted through the aperture. Then her husband and the others succeeded iii_ pulling her, lncrej dead than alive, from the cabin.
