SCHOOL COMMISSIONERS.

The Board mot yesterday, Mr. J. Wade (chairman) presiding, Messrs. Wade and Simpson reported that the adjustment of matters arising out of Hie deviation of the Mallgaoapa and Te Wera Roads was making satislaclory progress.

The board's solicitor reported that the rental for Mr. C. W. Culleu's lease for the next twenty-one years had been fixed by arbitration at £42.

Messrs. Weston and Weston, on behalf i of Mr. Herbert Martin, notified his acceptance of h;s renewal of a lease. On - the motion of Messrs. Jennings! and Major, the secretary was authorised to submit to the Commissioner of Crown Lands the schedule of reserves available for leasing, in order that upset rentals might be fixed, and thereafter to take all necessary steps for the auction of the leases. The names of the local auctioneers were balloted on, and it was resolved to entrust the selling to Mr. L. A. Nolan, whose name was drawn.

The Board's solicitor reported that a lessee had failed to execute ins lease. It was resolved, on the motion of Messrs. Simpson and Major, that section 6, block 4. Upper Waitara S.D., 3SO acres, be. included in the list of reserves to be offered for lease bv auction.

The ranger reported on a number of reserves which are ut being properly looked after. It was resolved that the secretary should write to those lessees who are failing to observe the noxious weeds covenants. It was also resolved that the attention of the New Plymouth Borough Council be drawn to the insanitary condition of sections 290 and 310, the property of the Commissioners, caused by the stoppage by the Council of the, natural course of the stream across the line of Powderham Street. The matter of cleaning up the sections was left in the hands of the chairman.

The treasurer reported a balance of £7Ol Gs.

Several transfers and mortgages were dealt with. It was resolved, on the motion" of Messrs. Major and Faull that iu compliance Willi the applications ol Messrs. J. A. Stanford, M. Dodunski.'M. F. Anderson, W. C. ('lenient. C. Morris, and A. McKeown. Mr. G. .1. Marchant Inappointed sole arbitrator for the parpose of the respective arbitrations to fix the yearly rentals and to determine the values of the substantial permanent improvements, with a view to the renewal of the respective leases. Accounts -amounting to £l7 7s were passed for payment.
