XOKTII ISLAND RAILWAYS. The railway traffic returns for the four-weekly period ended January 2, l!)0i), were published in last weekls Gazette. The familiar headings, ''Wuiling-ton-Napier-Newr Plymouth section," and Auckland «eet&on, no longer appear, as the completion of the Aucklanxl-Wc/.-.lington through connection has cattscd f these two sccUons to be combined trailer the heading: ""North Island Main Lines and Brunches." This all the North) Island lines except the short, unconnected Kawakawa, Whangarei, Kaih'u and (Jisborne sections. The passengers carried on the North Island main lines and branches during the period umlc'r notice numbered 87,4(12 firstclass, and 541),171 second-class; total, 030,033; as compared with 580.843 during the corresponding period of the previous year. The following table shows the revenue* (omitting* shillings; and pence) for the same two periods, which, it will bo noted, included the busiest portion of the holiday season: I DO!). 1008.
