SCULLING.
A REQUEST KEFUSED. By Telegraph'—Press Association. Auckland, Last Night. • At a ifi-eeting of the committee uf the Auckland Rowing Association to-night, n letter wa» received from tLe secretary of a local club asking for permission for a crew to pace K. Arnst, the world's champion sculler, in an exhibition seuil on tlie liart>or on Saturday. Arnst Juid approached the club otlicials, and Alley wrote to get an expression of opinion from the Association ou the ,point as to whether an amateur crew fould assist in a professional exhibition. A lengthy discussion took place, at the .conclusion of which the following was jcarried: "That in the opinion of the tAuckhod Rowing Association such an exhibition is contrary to the spirit of ,the clause defining amateurs according ,to the N.ZA.KA. rules. The Association therefore cannot approve of an ,club aiHliated with it assisting in a professional exhibition."
