TL'RF TOriCS. (By "Moturoa.'l The Takapuna. Joeliev Club's meeting will be concluded to-day. The racehorses Chlaudo and I'aul returned to New Plymouth 011 Monday morning. Paul was not a run at the meeting, but Ulilando had the misfortune to over-reach himself before the (.'up race, and, although lie finished in sixth place, lie was not able to show his best form. Mr. Kva very wisely dodded that, a spell was necessary, and sent the little son of Vhlan home. Franc (late Thaler) led the Held home in the Maiden Handicap at Miramar 011 Saturday.
Winners were easy lo pick on Saturdav at Takapuna, but after their severe gruelling 011 tlio opening day, punters stood oil' and lost money in consequence. Tlie only winner that was well fancied in town was Sir Artegal, who was very warm, and the "good tliinjf" materialised—for a change!
For beating llautapu liv a length in the Orcwa Hurdles 011 Friday, Okaihau only meets the topweight 011 Clbs worse terms. The weights of New Zealand horses engaged in the Xewmarkct Handicap are as follows: —Pink 't'n 9.13, Soultline 0.11. Penates 9.5, Motoa 0.2, Idealist S.j. Golden Slipper 8.1, and Seddon
7.0. ■ In the Australian Cup Signov lias 0.4, Moral «.», Golden Slipper 7.10, Seddon 7.5, Delaware 7.3, and Aeolus 0.13. Wauehopc ran two seconds 011 Friday at Takapuna, and was not started the second day, but is a likely runner in tlie Borough Handicap to-day. Tarinn iias jumped lllbs !'or her all-the-wav victory .in the Suburban Handicap. an,l is a. quick beginner, which has evidently influenced the handicapper when lie was 'framing the weights for the shorter events.
Clonpett is again 011 work on the Ila wera course.
■ Durability failed to show up in the Ferry Handicap, but is meeting the Held ill tlie Ponui Handicap 011 much better terms. 011 Friday the Xew Plymouth horse, was on the same mark as F.xplosive, and was giving Jena Slln. To-day (hey are set to give Durability lOlbs and' lSlh> respectively. When a punter gazes at the weights for tlie third day's racing he realises how little the handicapper knew before the meeting! Tui Cakubau was the popular fancy for the Anniversary Handicap, won bySir Artegal oil Saturday. The former tried to win from end to end, but was
collared !>,)- Rarata in tlir- straight, and' i-aside the distance fir Artcgal, ■who hud boon lying hiimly. oame with a -lashing run and won easily by over n lciiKt.li. Sir Artcgal is engaged in llif. \Veltcr with 9.1, which looks a
great load (on paper), lint tlio weights fining framed on a higher scale, considerably minimises the penalty for winning on Saturday. ■ The two-year-olds Elegance and Sea Elf put up a (treat contest in the Ilobson Handicap, run 011 the second day. The favorite. Sea Elf, led for four furlongs, but Elegance ranged alongside when the straight was reached, and a ding-dong battle homo resulted in the outsider scoring liy a. neck. Tnku Tukit imt ill 11 good run from the distance, and was only a head behind Sea Elf. Elegance carries Sst '" t.h'c Marine. llaiuli-
cap. ■ The TVrirua stable will not be l'epre
sciiled at the Egniont meeting, l'rosser's prads heiii" reserved for Wanganui. There will be races at Riccarton, Gisbonie and. Maniototo on Thursday aTid Friday.
Dunn" the running of |lie Taknptimi Cup Leonator broke a small bone, in his pastern and pulled up very lame. Tlio Manawatu Racing Club has decided to shorten the days' racing at tln-ir April meeting bj" reducing Ilia number of races from eight to seven on each day, the idea bei7ig to get the races over before dusk .sets in and allow patrons to get away early. Another change is in connection with the totalisator, which were run by Mr. J. Ayrcs and staff. The club will take over the management of the machines at tlio April meeting.
