MAIL TRAIN DELAYED
INTERFERENCE WITII BRAKES. A YOUTH CONVICTED. By Telegraph.—Press Association. Dunedin, Last Night, The second express from the north was subjected to a delay of about 15 minutes at Palmerstou yesterday owing to a brake having been tampered with. M lien the driver endeavoured to start the train it would not move, and the air in the Westinghouso brakes had to be pumped out. A youth named Bai'm was arrested, and at the court to-day he was charged with having committed an net ivhieh obstructed the working of tile railways by tightening the brake of "in- u! the carriages. The case for the prosecution was that Bain had put the hand brake hard on, The Westinghouso brake was also interfered with, but the accused was not charged with this. The defenco wag that another person put the brake on before the train reached Palmcrston, and that accused was turning it oil when detected. Accused was convicted and fined 10s and costs.
