Owing to receiving word that the Bird School Committee had not held a meeting for over three months, and that a certain section of tin*, committee recog- 1 liised that it had therefore ceased in exist, lie withheld the name- of the applicants for tile position of head teacher selected by the Teachers' Committee, and appointed Miss Mildred Berry temporary teacher. He had attended during the mouth to various minor requirements at various schools, and authorised the architect to proceed with the erection of partitions in the Stratford school. He recommended the revising and re-printing of the Board's regulations. The report was adopted. ARCHITECT'S REPORT. The. architect reported on his visit to 2i schools. At Rahotu the drains and other repairs were now completed. At I'uniho the repairs and other work auth- . orised had been completed. At L'ruli. two small gates were needed. At the Waihi school the downpipes had been pulled down, and the iron round the eaves of the building torn up in places, this having been done by children looking for birds' nests. The desks and, forms were in good order. The painting of the Tikorangi school had been completed, an extra coat being put on without extra cliarge. Extra fencing had been done. The erection of the Ta-1 Tiki residence had been completed. Re-1 pairs had been effected at Fitzroy and' Central. The contractor for the erection of the Okoke school was entitled to payment, subject to the Board's decision as to penalty. Makahu residence was still uncompleted. Pukcho and Purangi new. schools had been completed, and the contract for additions to the Omata school was well in .hand. —Adopted.
TEACHERS' SELECTION COMMITTEE. The recommendations of the Teachers' Selection Committee in filling vacancies was adopted as previously published. EXAMINATIONS. The Inspectors submitted the results, as published, of the recent National. Board and junior scholarship examinations.
Inspectors' reports on the Board's pupil teachers' examinations were read. Passes were as follows:
First year, Lucy H. Prideaux, Alberta M. Berndtsou, anil William S. Syuie.
Second year, Isabella A. Bunyan, Margaret 3L Blake. Ella Knox, a fourth year pupil teacher, also passed the Civil Service jimioi examination. Two candidates failed. It was decided, that the headmasters of the Fitzroy and Waitara schools be asked if they can oiler any explanation why their pupil teachers failed to pass the first examinations of pupil teachers recently. FINANCE COMMITTEE.
The Finance Committee submitted the following recommendations concerning matters arising out of correspondence received since the December meeting:—Rowan: That the .sum of £3 18s (id be paid to the committee for expenditure on fencing authorised by the Board. Hillsborough: That the committee be informed in reply to their letter that it is part of the committee's duty to keep the drains in order and clean. Cardiff: That the committee be granted £2 10s towards the cost of cleaning up the school grounds. Tarata: That application be made to the Department for the erection of a teacher's residence. Marco: That the committee's letter suggesting the fencing off and leasing of about eight acres of the school reserve be referred to Mr. Kennedy, with power to act. Tonga porutu: that copies of letters from the committee and teacher re the present residence be forwarded to the Depart ment, and that they be asked to niaki a grant sufficient to .cover the cost of 2 new residence. Kgmont Village: That the architect bo instructed to have the necessary' repairs effected, and that the committee be informed accordingly, lnglewood: That the sum of C 22 as authorised by the Board for asphalting portion of the grounds and other improvements be paid to the credit of the committee, the sub-eoininittee having reported that the work had been done satisfactorily. Huiakaiiia: That the tender of Messrs. Boon Bros, at £324 10s for the erection of the residence be accepted. ■ 3-liili
