SHOOTING.
WANUANUI RIFLES v. TARANAIU GUARDS. A team from the Wanganui Rifles, who hold the premier position as a shooting unit in the No. 2 Wellington Battalion, arrived in New Plymouth by the mail train last evening, under Ca.pt. Scott, to try conclusions with the TaranakiCuard'sas to supremacy in handling the .303 weapon of modern defence. The Guards, under Capt. Mills, have a fairly Strong team to uphold the No. 4 Weiling Battalion, and the result uf the match will he looked for with interest, as each of these units have one win to its credit Th« teams will compris* twenty men a-side, which may he accepted as a representative portion of tbi respective companies.
i HAWERA MOUNTED CADETS. Captain Mitchell, commanding the Hawera Mounted Cadet Corps, has arrived in New 'Plymouth with a good master of his company, and will indulge in rifle shooting practice on the local range this afternoon, if arrangements tan be made. The corps are camped on the racecourse. Captain J. B. Hine, of the Stratford Mounted Rifles, has forwarded a cheque for £2 2s to the secretary of the Taranaki Rifle' Association.
