NEXT BAND CONTEST.
WELLINGTON GARRISON'S PALTRY SPIRIT. By Telegraph.—Press Association. Paluierstou N., luist Night. Regarding tho Press Association message sent out on Tuesday covering a letter of the Wellington Garrison Band, Mr. Cohen, president of the North Island Brass Band Association, expresses great indignation at the attitude taken up by the Wellington Garrison Band, and hopes that the competing bands will not be influenced' against the contest by it
The opinion of Mr. J. P. Innes, legal adviser of the Association, has bee* obtained on the matter. Mr. innes is of opinion that the proceedings of the executive are perfectly valid and regular in all' points raised, and that the bands interested and the Hastings Contest Committee are not in any way likely to be prejudiced by any action of the executive. The point is that the executive has a porfact right to amend the band entries and regulations, which is all they have done. Mr. Cohen considers that the circular sent out was intended to prejudice the contest. A meeting of the executive has been called at Palmerston for the ,2!) th inst, when Sir. Cohen feels that consideration should be given as to what action should be taken regarding tho objection of the band, in view of the extraordinary action regarding the name of Mr. Alfred Hill being withdrawn from the ballot paper for judge. Mr. Hill never applied for registration, and Mr. Hill also stated that he was too ill to undertake the position. Hence, the withdrawal of his name which had been sent in by the Wellington Garrison.
