TUItF TOPICS. (By "lloturoa.") Races at Treutham to-day. A poor held is engaged in the Treutham Welter. The top-weight put up a good gallop in company with Moloch on Saturday, and on Monday kept Scaton Dale busy over six furlongs, run in I.lß'/,.. Flingot showing good track form before leaving Palmerston, and will be ridden by the Kariuuu horseman, F. D. Jones. De Wittc was not taken to Trentham, having bruised a heel, and the held for the Anniversary Handicap will only number five, Ikon being reserved for the Cup. Swimming Belt has been doing nicely, though, of course, his efforts have been overshadowed by- the brilliant track form of his companion, the Cup candidate All Bed. The other Porirua candidate, Kurawaka, covered a mile comfortably in 1.31' on Monday, ami is stated to be in fine fettle.

A good crowd of youngsters figure in tile Nursery Handicap. Four furlongs iu 52 seconds was Expansion's gallon on Monday, and Merriwa put up the aiunc time, tinisliing strongly. Bally Shannon took ylscc, beating llridge easily. Nothing of note was recorded by any of the light-weights, although several of them have shown winning form lately. Armlet won the race last year, and so much depends upon a good start that the issue is decidedly op«>. The thirty-sixth Wellington (.'up promises to draw a. capital Held, and should result in a fine race. The followiii" are the likely starters and their jockevs:—All Red, 0.9 <C. Jenkins): Apa,B.o (A. Olliver); Husbandman, 8.0 (F. F. Jones); Tanginioana, 8.5 (S. livid); Sir Frisco, 7.1:1 (J. McConibcj Artillerie, 7.10 (11. Hatch); Diabolo, 7.1 i (U. Price); Ikon, 7.5 (I>. Wilson); JJmirrasiiue, 7.5 (C. Scott); Moloch, 7.5 (li. Deelev); - Iramii, 7.1 (Sliuu,i]ia:ih | Muskerry,' 7.1' (H. Price); Swimming Belt, 7.1 (Alf. Oliver); Cha-iteuse, 7.1) (T.Jones); Sunbonnet, 8.13 (McGrath); Blue Rililion. 0.10 (T. Carroll); Lawn Rose,' 0.7 (E. Tapp); Adria, 0.7 (A. Chapman). Moloch won the race last year Willi 7st. up. All Red has been galloping so well that he may be expected to run a good race, but the Held to-day is a much Wore evenly-balanced one than he met in the Auckland Cup, and he will have to be a chauip'mi to win to-day. Ann. has not been seen out at Trcnihnm, and Husbandman, who is a poor track performer, has been losing many lriemls during the past week. Sir Frisco has been going well up to a mile ami a uuarler but Artillerie is reported to be hardlv wound up for a twelve-furlong journey. ikon, Bourrasipiv. and Moloch are a trio who have been pleasing tlfe touts, and Blue Ribbon, who was uniuckv to lose the Mnnawatu Cup, is in line "fettle. Should the favourite will it should pay a "fiver," and double figures may possibly be recorded. The following weights will be carried in the Maiden Plate, run over seven furlongs:— Consolation 8.0, Vinco 8.0. Maiora 8.0, Waloriki S.O, Pukewai 8.0, Te Kalmvaii'gi 7.7. Aberbvolbock 7.7, Tikiho 7.7, Miss Mischief 7.4, Belle Amie 7.4, Pellicle 7.4, t'kraiue 7.4, Merrivonia 7.4. and Valdimar 7.4. Vi will be an absentee from the Ruapehu Handicap, and very little mention of hacks is made in training notes. Kclogue has been winning frequently mil is "a good sort. Waikavaka and Merrivonia and Seaton Dale have, been galloping freely, but little is known of the others.

It is generally considered llml I lie Telegraph Handicap, ran over six furlongs, will be the most excithg race of the ilny. (fold Crest's work has only been sprinting during the last few days, but the l'orirua flier is in great heart, and with '.1.7 it cannot be said that the well-performed son of finld Reef is overburdened. Penates and Full Hate are [good performers, but have not been seen out at Trentham. Hangipapa 'strode over six furlongs iii 1.13 »» Monday, moving freelv. Armlet beat Sweet Angelas over live furlongs in linin. ;j H-iisees. Tumnt is galloping in great form and finished abreast of lloutade, who is a slippery customer, at the end of Y four furlong "g"" in 4!) il-3,, a slashing performance. Arnilct and Mitawav are both engaged in the Klcctric l!au'rtica.p, run earlier in the day, and j Klitawav surprised the touts by running live furlongs in linin. on Saturday. . . F. 1). Jones will ride Marlynum, and \rthur Olliver Moriarty in the Electric, iiallarat has been showing a glimpse of his old form and sprinted three furlongs .Mcrriw'a has not shown the c|uality of smartness in getting away from t.li« harrier and the colt may not final I the Xurscrv Handicap distance fin ! enough lor him. Expansion will have I the services of H. Hutch, and seems to have thrown oft' the symptoms of inlluj cnai which troubled it some weeks ago.
