WAITARA. From Our Own Correspondent. On Thursday morning last a quiet but pretty wedding took place at the residence of Mr. J. Wilson, Waitara. The contracting parties were Mr. A. Knyvett Lash, of Onaero, and -Miss Maud Isabella Wilson, daughter of Mr. J. Wilson, Waitara. The bride was attired in a travelling costume of navy blue voile with sath front finished with filet net, the orthodox veil and orange blossoms. The bride's two little nieces -Joyce Wilson and Violet Dugdale—acted as bridesmaids, while the bridegroom was supported by Mr. W. Lash as "best man." The wedding breakfast was partaken of in a marquee erected in the garden, the liev. F. T. Read, officiating minister, proposing the health of the happy couple. Mr. and Mrs. Lash left by the 1 p.m. train for Wanganui, where the honeymoon will be spent. On Friday the Commissioners of the Waitara School met, and it was resolved to recommend the Hoard to appoint Mr. Wilkins, of Wellington, for the position of assistant master. The regatta committee met on Wednesday evening, and a splendid programme for the forthcoming fixture was adopted. For outriggers there are maiden fours, junior fours, and senior fours; and for whale-boats there are seven events, the champion prize being AM2 for first anil £3 for second. For the four weeks ending ■laiiuury 2nd, 1909.- 38li0 passengers '«ere carried oa the Waitara-Leppcrtoii Junction line. The freight was composed of til? following: 13l> parcels, 3 horses, 2« dogs. 177 cattle, 8334 sheep, Ki-t pigs, 1245 bales of wool. 117.300 feet of timber. 380 tons of grain, 152 tons of merchandise, HO tons of coal. 73 tons of other minerals. The revenue shows a big increase over that for the corresponding period of last year. Mr. W. Levick, a Wairarapa representative footballer, is about to take up his residence in Waitara. Xext Thursday four rinks from the Xew Plymouth Bowling Club will play members of the local club on the Waitara green.
