Bransgrove, of Devon-street, left for Dunedin yesterday morning to attend the funeral of his brother, who died some weeks ago in South Africa. The Rev. W. U. Baker, vicar of BrightWater, Nelson, has been appointed Archdeacon of Waiiuea in succession to the late Archdeacon Wright.—Press wire. 1 A Duniedin telegram states that Dr. Chappie, cx-M,P. for Tuapeka, and Mrs. Chappie were entertained at a "social" at Beaumont on Tuesday, when the 'former wins presented with ail illuminated address. Mr. William Kerr, of_Ne\v Plymouth, ■who has been appointed Stipendiary l.Uagvtrate at Wanganui, was horn in 'Edinburgh, and served his articles in ' binini'ii with the legal firm of Messrs. iTulius and Balmeir, and was admitted 'is'a barrister and solicitor in 1883. Mr. Kerr is a nephew of the late (Mr. James Smith, the Edinburgh poet land Scottish story-writer, to whose (memory the hitter's friends and adimirers erected in the Grange Cemetery 'Edinburgh, a beautifully-designed mon.i'ineut with ti. bas-relief bust of the poet.
