ATHLETICS.

THE DUAL (,DXTUOL (iUJSTIOX. By Telegraph.—Press Association. Christehurcll, Last Xiglit, Matters connected with the present, dual control of amateur athletics in (he Dominion were discussed at a meeting of the Council of the Xcw Zealand Amateur Athletic Association to-night, the discussion arising out of the suggestions forwarded by the Auckland centre as a basis for the settlement of the seeming deadlock. The attitude of the Auckland centre was discussed at some length, and some ditlVreuee of opinion was expressed as to whether that centre would continue its support to the t'hristehnreh Council after the present season, and some importance was attached to the question, as Auckland would hold the balance of power. A suggestion was made that the Council should send delegations to the Wellington, Otago nml Southland centres to discuss the points in dispute with a view of arriving at some satisfactory solution of the difficulty. Very strong objection was taken to any delegation going to Wellington. Fn regard to Otago, the president (Mr. W. C. Atack) undertook to enter into correspondence with the president of that centre with a view to ascertaining what the charges are! against the Council. ft was reported that a request had been received from Dr. Newman (president of the council recently formed in Wellington) asking for the funds and property of the Association. and the secretary slated that he had declined to accede to the request. Tt was reported that both councils arc sending out notices to the cl.ihs affiliated requesting them to pay their subscriptions. It was resolved to offer the championships to Otago. and it was mentioned that in the event of Otago not accepting ihe championships would i probably be decided in ('hristchureh.
