Senator Tillman's speech :•! lice Senate was the most striking epi-.od: 1 of the debate on President Knoseiclt's message. The galleries were packed with diplomatists and Congressmen who made a riotous rush to secure admittance. Senator Tillman denied doing anything illegal. He accused President Roosevelt of personal malice, calling him a dodger and a coward. While- President Hoosevelt shielded his dear friend llarriniaa (who held two million acres of the public domain) he attacked him (Senator Tillman) for wanting to buy 1440 acres. Senator Tillman demanded a searching investigation. His speech was heard in silence, there being no applause.
