About vighly men are engaged on this work in various parts of the .Dominion at the present lime. The laud .purchase officers of the ({■)- verninent have lately purchased considerable areas of native land in the Clifton. Ohura. and Whangamomnna districts (Tarauaki). Wailomo (Auckland), and Taupo West. The surveys of these lands, which will be oll'ered under the optional system, are now being proceeded with. The Kauroo estate (acquired from the Tcsclimakev family)' of lO.imi) acres near Oamaru. i which is to he put on the market -hort- I )y. comprises M holdings, ranging ?n area from Jjou acres to :iooo acres, only half the number of sections olfeivd in the Tautiri block. Auckland, which was I opened on 2\*\. December, were taken up at the time, but from enquiries which have been made since it is. expected that the whole of file sections will he deposed of in the course of the next few week-.
