Duncdin, Last Night. The Educational Institute Conference closed to-night, when the following motions were carried:—"That district institutes, especially in the larger centres, take into consideration the question or the use of cadets, school children, and public school teachers for the purpose of display, with a view of taking aclio.i to limit the displays; that the .Minister be asked to state definitely before the end of January the grounds on which the proviso to clause 12 of the Teachers' Superannuation lie made operative; that the attention of the .Minister be drawn to the fact that the Marlborough Education Board, by appointing teach."s only from year to year, makes a delibeiate attempt to deprive teachers of the privileges and benefits conferred by i'lc Teachers' Incorporation and Court <f Appeal Act. The next annual meeting will be held in Wellington. The following resolutions were carried:—That the Education Department be asked to formulate regulations as to sick leave granted to teachers, taking into consideration the length of service, and also to allow for granting leave of absence on full pay after certain periods of service, as is the case in sonic Australian States; that the Institute considers pupil teachers who are compelled under Boards' regulations to sit for matriculation examinations should not have to pay the examination fees; that in the interest of education the introduction of uniform school-books is U'llesirable; that the Institute bring before the notice of the Minister the necessity for providing better physical conditions for children, especially "with regard to heating and outside shelters that in the best interests of education Education Boards be requested to grant' .eachers two or more days in every rear for the purpose of visiting the best schools in the various educational disricts; that the attention of the Delartment be drawn to the existing dis■repaney in the fees payable for. subects iu class "C" examination; that Government be asked to set np a permalent commission to revise the place lames in New Zealand, with a view to enioving anomalies in the repetition of he same name and in spelling, and to icstow new names. H. lughes (Christehurch); non - official iiemliers of the executive, Messrs. G. lurray (Auckland), J. Caughley (Wei- j ington). J. Harkness (Reefton). The president stated the resent membership was 2217, an inrease of 348 since the last annual meetlg.
