At the Police Court to-day, John Stephen Toomey, aged 111, was charge 1 with having on 1-ilh December discharged a loaded rille at Daniel MeCnrd.v (his" stepfather) with intent to do grievous bodily harm. After evidence for the prosecution had been given, accused, who reserved his defence, w.i» committed for trial. The police opposed the application for bail, on the ground that accused had since threatened to do McCnnly further cused's uncle undertook to M'lid a Mir .o Xaseby. and on accused's undertaking not to further injure his stepfather bail was allowed, accused in £2OO and one surety of a like amount or two of £l>o each. NAPIER CATTLE CASES. Napier, Last Night. At the Magistrate's Court to-day AVilliaiu Robinson was charged with having on llllh November, at Runauga, on the Napier - Taupo road, received from Samuel licswiek ten head of eattl?, valued at £i:>, the property of Richard "Keeiie and James Heid, knowing the same to have been stolen. Accused, who reserved his defence, was committed to the .Supreme Court for trial on bail. EXTRADITION GRANTED. Wellington, Wednesday. Extradition was granted this mornfn» in the cases of Herbert Thomas Chill' mid Harry Ricincnschncidcr, charged with wife desertion in New South Wales. GAOL-BREAKER PUNISHED. Wellington, Wednesday. Milford Burgess, alias John Williams, who was arrested in Sydney on a charge of breaking and entering at Lower Unit, and who broke gaol some days ago, pleaded guilty this morning and was remanded to the Supreni? Court for sentence. I'or breaking gad he got three months.
